Reliable & long-term supply of fuel at known prices

Ever mindful of the imperative of the fuel supply – especially in biomass projects – VEG develops proprietary fuel supplies.

VEG’s ability to produce its own fuel - and its selected generation technology allow high flexibility in the use of fall-back fuel/feedstocks in case if stress of the dedicated fuel supply - allows VEG to control the single most important variable for a clean power plant: the renewable fuel supply-chain.

VEG produces or trades two types of biomass solid fuel (pellets):

VEG Standard ‘white’ biomass pellets the FSC-certified fuel is processed and densified (pelletized), shipped in bulk (up to 42,000 tons of product per shipment), and priced (CIF or FOB), adjusted for energy (US$/GJ) as received, based on Asking Price calculated at (17 MJ/kg net calorific value at constant pressure).

As a result of a high NCV together with efficient production (including intense tropical sunlight), the VEG pellet’s Carbon Footprint – including shipping to port Amsterdam (ARA) from HCMC  -  is between 20 g/kWh to 40 g/kWh. 

VEG ‘BLACK’ Biomass Pellet - FSC- certified, meets or exceeds European Union, European Norm Grade I1 to I3 Specifications (EU EN 14961-1). (Note: Neither “Torrefied Pellet” standard ISO 17255-8 nor EN 14961-8, are fully ratified).

All pricing is adjusted for energy content (US$/GJ) as received based on Asking Price calculated at 22MJ/kg net calorific value at constant pressure. Actual price calculated = (Asking price ÷ 22) x actual MJ/kg as received

VEG is in commercial close on its first ‘greenfield’ Biocoal pellet mill – The Cam Ranh Bay Facility - and plans to begin shipping utility-scale quantities (150,000 tpa) of this product 3Q 2016. Offtake guarantees are now being negotiated.

The ‘black’ biomass pellet (Torrefied Biocoal) – Torrefaction does to biomass what nature does to biomass – turns it into coal. Only torrefaction does it in minutes instead of millions of years.

Because of its coal-like properties, this fuel is typically used for existing coal replacement or for situations requiring premium fuel design. And since the feedstock is chemically altered in the torrefaction process, specifications like low chlorine or high Hardgrove Grindability Index can be achieved according to the requirements of the power plant.

•Derived from homogeneous, FSC-certified feedstock, year-round production
•Far superior carbon footprint compared to ‘white’ pellets
•Combustion characteristics similar to coal, allowing co-fire at any proportion without substantive de-rating.
•Grind-ability and handling characteristics similar to coal, negating a need for separate material handling facilities.
•Low volitiles like SiO2, CaCl and heat transfer retarding substances like K2O, P2O5, CaSO4 are not present in the same quantity as in wood pellets.
•Fines, dust are at a minimum and Characterized by a stowage factor of 70%, a logistical advantage for transport.
